The Marvel "Families".
As we can talk about several characters "universes" in american super-hero comic-books, in the Marvel Universe we can talk about character "families". Marvel Comics has decided to group some series with some kind of relationships. In each family not only we find a list of heroes but also a fixed (more or less) list of villains, that rarely appear in other family's series.
The main "Marvel Families" are listed here:
- Mutants: The most successful Marvel family. It groups all the colections were appears characters with a "X Factor" in their genes giving them amazing powers: X-Men, X-Force, X-Factor-X, X-calibur, Generation-X, Cable, Alpha Flight...
- Spiderman: all the series connected with our favourite Web-Slinging Wall-Crawler: Spiderman, Black Cat, Nightwatch, Prowler, Venom...
- Fantastic Four: in the Baxter building we find several characters relationed with the famous quartet: Fantastic Four, Fantastic Force (a team leaded by Reed Richards & Sue Storm's son: Franklin Richards), Namor, Silver Surfer, She-Hulk (she has been a member of the Fantastic Four), the Inhumans (there are some limited series).
- Avengers: some years ago ALL the main Marvel characters were active members or reserve members of the Avengers. Now-a-days there are less members, but there exist a list of series with an important relation: Avengers, Force Works, IronMan, War Machine, Thor, Captain America, Hulk...
- New Warriors: these teenagers are becoming more and more important in Marvel Universe: New Warriors, Nova, Night Trasher...
- Midnight Sons: a group of mistical series or terror series: The Ghost Rider, Dr. Strange, Blade, Blaze....
- Cosmic Heroes: a sort of series with characters who use to travel among the space: the Galaxy Guardians, Warlock...
- TV, Cinema, toys: yes, eventhough some people prefers to forget this group, these comics are Marvel, too: G.I.Joe, Barbie, Beavies & Butt-Head...
Finally there are some collections that are difficult to include in any of the groups menctioned above, as Daredevil, Silver Sable, Solo, the Punisher, heroes for Hire.... If any one of you has any idea... I'll be grateful for any comments.
